Annual LAFFIA Training Conference Information

LAFFIA sponsors and hosts an annual training conference in April of each year. These training conferences are conducted Wednesday thru Friday of the training week with an early registration and early arrival option provided on Tuesday of the training week.

The member training conference fee of $95 includes:

  1. All training classes Wednesday thru Friday.
  2. Certificate of training at the end of classes on Friday. This training counts as continuing education for law enforcement personnel and private industry personnel or investigators.
  3. The evening meal on Wednesday night.
  4. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Thursday.
  5. Breakfast on Friday.
  6. Hospitality room privileges
  7. Inclusion in numerous door prize drawings which also include larger prizes of a t.v., dvd player, and shotgun.

Spouses or significant others of members conference fee of $25 includes all of the above member conference benefits with the exception of the training classes and certificate of training. Spouses or significant others also are eligible to attend a tour and excursion provided by LAFFIA during Thursday class times. The lunch time meal on this trip is included for those that participate.

Nonmember training conference fee of $190 includes all of the above member conference benefits.

Note: Nonmember applications for training must be reviewed and approved by the LAFFIA Board of Directors to ensure that the nonmember meets LAFFIA eligibility requirements.

2009 TRAINING CONFERENCE INFORMATION

April 21 - 24, 2009 with early registration beginning on April 21, 2008, from Noon to 4 p.m.
Location:  Slidell, La.
Host Organization:  Whitney National Bank
Host Hotel:  Holiday Inn Slidell, 372 Voters Road, Slidell, LA

The training curriculum for this year's conference will consist of instructors from the Whitney National Bank, The FBI; US Secret Service; and the New Orleans Police Department

Training subjects for this year's conference will cover the following subjects:

  • Disaster Recovery and Contingency Planning Disaster & Hurricane Fraud
  • Bank Robbery Investigations Social Security Fraud
  • Counterfeits and Identify Theft
  • Financial crimes and Narcotics


2008 TRAINING CONFERENCE INFORMATION

April 23 - 25, 2008 with early registration begining on April 22, 2008, from Noon to 4 p.m.

Location:  Gonzales, La.

Host Organization:  Port Vincent Police Department

The training curriculum for this year's conference will consist of instructors from the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Louisiana Attorney General Office, Louisiana State Police, and U.S. Social Security Office.

Training subjects for this year's conference will cover the following subjects:

  • Electronic Tracking of Criminals thru Financial Institutions & Databases
  • Disaster & Hurricane Fraud
  • Insurance Fraud
  • Social Security Fraud
  • Internet Security

 

PAST TRAINING CONFERENCE INFORMATION

2007 Training Conference:

The 2007 annual training conference was held at the Best  Western On The Lake, St. Francisville, La., April 18 - 20, 2007.  Host sponsor for the conference was the West Feliciana Parish Sheriffs Office.  Training classes were conducted by instructors from La. Attorney General Office, La. State Police Crime Lab, Louisiana State University, Louisiana Banker's Assoc., ADSI, Cox Communications, and the Phillip Morris Corp.

The classes of instruction included:

  • Investigative Software Support and Case Management Resources
  • Louisiana Fraud Law Updates and Prosecution Guidelines
  • Contractor Fraud
  • Insurance Fraud
  • Trademark Fraud
  • Forensic Investigation of Fraud & White Collar Crime
  • Utility Theft

2006 Training Conference:

The 2006 annual traning conference was held at Best Western of Alexandria, La., April 18 - 21, 2006. Host sponsor for the conference was the Rapides Parish Sheriffs Office. Training classes were conducted by instructors from the International Association of Financial Crime Investigators, High Tech Criminal Investigations Association, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Louisiana Attorney General Office, National Association of Bunko Investigators, Rapides Parish Sheriffs Office, American Express (Office of Security Investigations), SWACHA, and Regions Bank. The classes of instruction included:

  • Insurance Fraud
  • Travelers & Gypsies
  • Hi Tech Computer Investigations
  • SWACHA Operations
  • Mortgage Fraud
