How can I be sure LAFFIA is the legitimate organization it claims to be?
- LAFFIA is a registered nonprofit organization with the Louisiana Secretary of State Office in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The organization can be verified by checking their website located at www.sec.state.la.us Once on the website go to the “Corporation Data Base” and click to enter. On the corporation search box type in the name of our organization.
Do I have to attend the annual training seminar to maintain my membership?
- No .... attending the annual training seminar is strictly optional and up to the individual member.
Do I have to be a member of LAFFIA to attend the annual training seminar?
- No .... a nonmember may apply to attend the conference but his/her attendance must be approved by the Board of Directors and the nonmember registration fee is considerably higher than the member registration fee. Nonmember registration fee is currently set at $190.
How much are LAFFIA membership dues?
- Membership dues are $20 per year or $40 for three years.
What do I get for my LAFFIA membership?
- Members receive a quarterly news letter containing updates and information on the organization and general information on forgery and fraud related crimes.
- Members have access to the contact information for all active LAFFIA members which is accessible to the membership only.
- Members are eligible to attend the annual training conference at an exceptional value. The three day yearly training conference registration fee is currently set for members at $95 which also includes the dinner meal on Wednesday night and all three meals on Thursday of the training seminar. Awards and door prizes are also provided at this conference.
- Members who attend the annual training conference receive a training certificate from LAFFIA. This training is also recognized as continuing education for law enforcement personnel and private industry personnel.
- Members with two consecutive years in the organization can apply for training fund assistance to attend a school, conference, or seminar related to forgery or fraud crimes. (This does not include the annual LAFFIA training conference).
What is the application process?
- Applicants that are sponsored by an existing LAFFIA member who affirms the applicant’s eligibility meet the organization’s criteria are automatically accepted.
- Applicants who are not sponsored by an existing LAFFIA member submit an application. The applicant’s employment organization and job title or position are then confirmed by LAFFIA to ensure the applicant meets the necessary organization criteria. The application is then accepted or denied. Membership dues are not required at the time an applicant that is not sponsored by an existing LAFFIA member are submitted. Upon acceptance the applicant will receive an email or letter informing them they have been accepted and that submission of their dues is required. Membership will become active upon the dues payment and the member will be advised by mail or email.
How is the location of the yearly training conference decided?
- The location of the yearly training conference is picked by the serving president of LAFFIA and is usually held in the president’s city of residence or nearby community. The 2003 conference was held in Baton Rouge, the 2004 conference was held in Covington, the 2005 was held in Bossier, the 2007 conference was held in Alexandria, and the 2008 is scheduled to be held in Gonzales.
